Koko

Koko is a guitarist and musician who has made Langkawi his home, playing a mix of world and modern music shaped by calypso, reggae, jazz, dub, highlife and ambient sounds.

He first picked up a guitar at the age of seven and later graduated with a diploma in music from the National Art Academy in Kuala Lumpur.

His relationship with Langkawi began in 2007, when he came to the island to play a New Year's Eve party just after finishing high school. The experience stayed with him. After completing his diploma and spending two years working in Kuala Lumpur, he returned in 2014 — this time to stay.

Langkawi became part of his musical education too. Playing with different bands around the island, particularly in Pantai Cenang, Koko immersed himself in roots, rock and reggae and developed the broad mix of sounds he plays today.

For Koko, it was the combination of the music, the people, the food and the atmosphere that turned a place he once visited for a gig into home.
